        Lesson 5 - The First Three Petitions


        WHOLE FAMILY
        • Read and discuss God is Great and Thy Kingdom Come (Parent Guide, pp. 103-104 & 107-109)
        • Perform an Advent prayer (For example: light the 2nd candle on the wreath, or another prayer)

        ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
        • Fill in the Acrostic (Student Guide, p. 53) 
        • Practice a verse in writing (p. 52)


        MIDDLE SCHOOL
        • Discuss your own ideas recognizing God's greatness and
        • Read "Thy Kingdom Come" to the family, completing World vs. God's Will (p. 55)


        HIGH SCHOOL
        • Finish reading Pope Francis's General Audience on Prayer (there is an attachment below or linked here



        WEEK TWO

        Lesson 5 - The First Three Petitions


        WHOLE FAMILY
        Recite the first three petitions and discuss as a family what each person thinks that each petition stands for
        • Practice 3rd week of Advent prayer.
        • Family Prayer check-in "How are we doing?"
        • Celebrate Our Lady of Guadalupe!

        ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
        • Petitions Match (p. 57) Cut and match together by discussing with a parent or older sibling


        MIDDLE SCHOOL
        • Watch and dig deeper with your parent(s): Understanding the ‘Our Father’, Scott Hahn (on Youtube) 18:44 - 42:45 min. 
        • Share your interpretation verbally or in writing of "Hallowed be thy name," "Thy Kingdom come," and "Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven." 

        HIGH SCHOOL
        • Students should practice praying with Lectio Divina using Luke 1 (any part) and reflecting on the view point of Mary and/or Joseph.

        As we enter the Church New Year in Advent, pray with this Saint throughout the upcoming year.

        Whole Family Activity
        1. Firm up your family commitment (Parent Guide, pp.48-49) this week thinking about time, place, space, reminders, or other (Student Guide, p. 18) and then each of you make a contract that you sign together.

        Middle School and Adults
        1. Review October by watching 13 minutes of a video from Bishop Robert Barron on Prayer, and inspiring you to perhaps make a motivated effort in your whole family activity. 
        2. Prepare for November by reading ahead the essays for lessons 3 and 4 found at the back of the Parent Guide, pp. 292-297.

        1.  M&M Prayer: Use this lighthearted form of prayer as a launching point to set a daily/weekly family prayer routine that you are all going to work to keep this year. 

          Try to make a commitment to pray as a family at ________ time on __________ days of the week (you fill in the blanks).

        Grades PreK - 2nd
        Glory Be Cross (Parent Guide, pp. 32-33) practice the Glory Be prayer and color/draw on the cross (Student Guide, p. 12).

        Grades 1-5
        God Inside our Heart (Parent Guide, p.28) color and draw within the hearts as your parents guide you (Student Guide, p.11)

        Middle School

        WEEK THREE 

        At all levels, and with as many family members as you can, establish a family prayer time. 

        Your goal is simply to start somewhere if this is really new, but also to challenge your family to grow in their prayer in other ways if daily prayer is already a habit.

        A few examples:

        • Meal blessings
        • Morning prayer
        • Evening prayers before bed
        • Or once a week prayer time if this is an easier habit to start with
        • Praying for others
        • Praying with knowledge of the Bishop's or Pope's intentions of the month
        • Prayer with Scripture 
        • Prayers that might be less familiar (Rosary, Angelus, Divine Mercy Chaplet, or other)
        • Prayers for intercession with Saints of the month


        WEEK TWO 

        Families: 
        Read through and choose an activity from your Circle of Grace At-Home Parent packets, engaging learning for Circle of Grace at the appropriate age level.
